A LITTLE MORE ABOUT MY LIFE AND LIKES

All About Richard G. Stevens and Crete
15 years ago after visiting a friend in Cyprus, I decided I liked the pace and environment of the Mediterranean and was particularly drawn by the Greek islands. After visiting several of them, Crete stood out head and shoulders above the rest. I recharged my batteries almost overnight and both MiSDirection and Assurance were finished for publication within a year. Two more books, Assimilation and Accession, are being researched to complete the quadrilogy.

Crete has provided a real fillip for writing but I can't quite put my finger on why. Perhaps it's the tranquillity, the lack of traffic noise or even the social scene and spending time with genuine people instead of a pseudo existence in front of the TV. I have met some 'real' characters, one of which has inspired two further novels; Discrete Reversal was published in 2015 and another, Sea of Duplicity, is now under way and nearing completion.

My favourite beach. Sometimes I just park the camper for the night, watch the sun set and rise again in morning.

Atlantic Coast Express Steam Engine, Yeovil StationMaybe you'd like to see the back of me!
At heart I’m still a steam engine enthusiast and these three photographs each have a special meaning.  Above is a special train pausing at my home town of Yeovil with another type of engine I helped restore and drove more than thirty years ago. The one to the right with me in the cab was taken on the Children’s Railway near Budapest just before I drove all the way back to the terminal station. The black engine I helped rescue from a south-Wales scrapyard with my late professional railway-man friend Jack Twyman, who sadly died before it steamed again.

Sailing is my latest daft hobby and I sailed, in 'Samphire', around 21 Cyclades islands during the Spring of 2016
